Tephra Ridge Vineyard

Varietals: Langtry Farms’ Tephra Ridge vineyard consists of 34.5 acres of producing Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Carmenier and Petite Verdot wine grapes.

Location: Tephra Ridge lies just across the Napa County line (1,000ft.) along the ridge top which extends south from Mount St. Helena. The elevations at this vineyard range from 1365’ to 1770’.

Soils: Soils on the Tephra Ridge are derived from volcanic parent materials which resulted from volcanic activity that was common in the area thousands of years ago. These soils are located on hill slopes and range from shallow to moderately deep and are typically very well-drained. These soils range from gravelly loams to loams in texture and several have large amounts of gravel within their soil profile. As a result, the available water holding capacity for these soils is lower than might be expected. The soils are slightly acidic and low in fertility. Thus, the soils of Tephra Ridge have a low vigor potential and are excellent soils for the production of premium quality red wine grape varieties.
